A New Approach to Innkeeping
Rob and Leigh Blood came to Kennebunkport in June of 2004, fresh off a year of innkeeping on Nantucket Island. They were young and energetic and fell in love with Kennebunkport and the Captain Fairfield Inn. Over the first few years Rob and Leigh poured everything they had into renovations, modernizing the Inn and serving guests. In 2007, with designs on starting a family, they moved out of the Inn. Since then, several talented and devoted innkeeping couples have provided enthusiastic and genuine hospitality. Each couple has brought their own talents and personalities to the Inn. Leigh and Rob work closely with the innkeepers to ensure that you have an exceptional experience during your Kennebunkport getaway.
Loryn Kipp (who Rob has known since grade school and who went to college with Leigh) has been a co-owner of Captain Fairfield since August 2008. She and her now-husband Finn, as well as their great danes Parker and Greta, were the innkeepers from 2008 through 2010. During that time they introduced a boutique wine list and small plates menu, and Loryn wowed guests with her culinary wizardry.
Jed Thomas and Alana Buie have been our innkeepers since January 2012. Jed and Alana grew up in families that instilled them with a strong sense of hospitality. Their penchant for making guests feel welcome and comfortable has only grown, and they are thrilled to share it with you. With Alana’s attention to detail and Jed’s decade of experience in the hospitality industry, they are well-equipped to maintain the extraordinary level of service at Captain Fairfield Inn.
The couple’s central passion is food. Jed’s summer in New Orleans, which he spent working at Arnaud’s and learning to cook at the highest level, solidified his enthusiasm and culinary style. Alana’s baking acumen was earned almost entirely at home – one batch of cookies at a time. Here are a few gastronomic games they love to play: creating unique twists on old favorites, accommodating dietary restrictions without sacrificing flavor, and showcasing quality local ingredients.
Jed and Alana fell in love with Kennebunkport from afar (Lawrence, Kansas to be precise). It has so many of the attributes they look for when they travel: unique cultural quirks, fascinating history, wonderful local shops and restaurants, plus the beautiful coastal landscape. Though they aim to quickly get up to speed on the Kennebunkport scene, they would love to hear about your favorite restaurants, activities, beaches, galleries… anything you love about K’port.
